If you are in the mood for a play, a great coffee and the option for some wildlife adventures then visit Pengo's Cafe on the Shoalwater Beach Foreshore, in Rockingham - right where you catch the ferry to go to Penguin Island.
There is a playground on the grass next to the alfresco eating area of Pengo's Cafe, which is part of the Rockingham Wild Encounters base where you can book tickets for the ferry trip to Penguin Island, sea lion cruises and swimming with dolphins. The playground is open to the general public, you don't need to be at the cafe to have a play (but we would recommend having a coffee!).
The playground is a small play structure with sand on the ground. It is really suited for little kids and/or a short play while Mum and Dad have a coffee. There is no shade over the playground, but there are some trees nearby which provide a bit of shade over the grassed area. The playground is not fenced. There are public toilets on the side of the cafe building.
Pengo's Cafe is a casual and friendly place, they do great 5 senses coffee, cakes, paninis, salads and a range of yummy burgers. The cafe is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch from mid September - early June, and Wednesday to Sunday during winter months.
We took the ferry out to Penguin Island, and had a walk around the island which has some nice views and beaches and lots of birds! We visited the Penguin Discovery Centre on the island and the kids enjoyed seeing the penguins being feed and playing in their pool. All the details about ferry times, prices etc are on the Rockingham Wild Encounters website www.dolphins.com.au The menu for Pengo's Cafe is also on the site.
