City Beach Foreshore has a playground on the grass up above the sand, right next to the cafe, which does takeaway coffee and icecream. Downstairs near the change rooms there is a kiosk open during the busy times.   The playground is a nice new style one, with lots of shade from shade sales and softfall on the ground.

There is also another older playground at the end of the carpark, but this one has no shade and is further from the cafe.
